January Favorites 2020

Beauty Edition

PLANS CHANGE - sometimes for the better and other times not so much. It's okay to be disappointed but don't let that blind you from seeing the many blessings around you.

I know I'm not alone here when I say January was A LOT.

A lot of good and a lot of bad - all in all, a lot.

My January was supposed to be filled with fun moments with friends in a much warmer climate; experiencing a new culture, learning and creating beautiful content and I really had no plan B, because that was the ultimate plan. WELP as I've learned in the past and I know will continue to learn as time goes on - PLANS CHANGE - sometimes for the better and other times not so much. It's okay to be disappointed but don't let that blind you from seeing the many blessings around you.

With that said, yes, January didn't turn out the way I planned, but I'd like to share a few faves of the month. A number of products that brought me happiness.

I've decided to focus on Beauty for my faves in January simply because though major plans failed, my skin was F L O U R I S H I N G in the cold temperatures! So enjoy and I hope this brings you as much joy as it did me and honestly still does.

1. AESOP SKINCARE PRODUCTS

I was introduced to AESOP through a friend at work who visited their store in soho and told me the vibe in there screamed ME! I'm yet to visit the store to decide if it really does but their products I've been using are definitely my vibe.

I purchased THE CHRONICLER which is one of their seasonal gift kits comprising of the purifying facial cream cleanser, clarifying facial cleansing masque and my absolute favorite, the hydrating Fabulous Face oil.

I chose this kit because I wanted the face oil and needed a cleanser and this kit had both and a face masque. It was quite pricey but definitely worth it considering the outcome.

A major result for me is the fact that I have been super comfortable rocking my fresh face no make up look everyday and if you know me you know that that pretty major

With this oily skin of mine, finding products that make my face less oily, and blemish free has made my heart very very happy.

2. ANCIENT COSMETICS

I stumbled on this black owned skincare line on instagram and decided to check it out after the internet gods kept putting it on my feed. The brand focuses on using ancient methods for modern skin plus their products are both vegan AND handmade.

My favorite thing about ancient cosmetics products is that they smell AMAZING while leaving my skin feeling smooth and moisturized especially during this season. They have so many products for specific skin issues such as acne, ingrown hairs, stretch marks, etc.

I'm trying their ingrown hair oil for two months before I give a review but it has great reviews on their site.

3. NARS POWERMATTE LIP PIGMENT

One gloomy winter morning, I walked into Sephora on 34th Street across the street from Macy's looking for a nude lipstick or stain, something I could wear on a daily basis. I walked up to the NARS section and fell in love with the PowerMatte collection.

I tried on a couple before landing on the 'do it again' lip pigment. PERFECTION.

The perfect nude I was looking for. The right amount of brown to blend well with my melanin as well as make my skin and features pop.

Since I had time, and I was already in the store anyway, I decided to try other colors and settled on 'star woman' - I have to wear it into existence, you know?

Writing about this made me realize I don't need much to feel beautiful in my own skin; it really just takes taking care of myself to enjoy myself. So I urge you to do same this year. Take care of yourself, pay attention, and don't let bad situations blind you from seeing the many blessings around you.
